Why My Valentine Is Better Than Yours…

After five years of marriage, I’m waiting for the “rough” two years to start. You hear this as a newly wed, that the first two years or the fourth and fifth years are the challenging ones. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had trying times. But those times of struggle were external and only seemed to make us closer.

I started the premise of this blog as a 140 character tweet… but just didn’t have enough room. So here are the reasons why my valentine is better than yours!

  • She lives for her son. She is his ultimate sense of safety and comfort for our little boy. There are weeks on end, when she has to play the major parenting role, and she comes through like a hero. From the moment he asks for her in the morning till we shut off the light at night, she loves and takes care of our little man like no other mother in the world.
  • She try’s new things. When I first met my wife, she was… well, lets say on the “safe” side of all things white; food with its core seasoning being butter. I was even able to trick her into thinking calamari was a “Japanese fish,” cause I knew she wouldn’t eat squid. She has since turned into a person who loves all kinds of food, music and art. We eat more rice and beans in our home than meat and potatoes – and she cooks it all herself. She also never cooked before our marriage! Best stir fry in town is at the Garrett’s house.
  • She loves hockey. This could be part of the, tries new things. The reason it fits into its own category is because her love for hockey stems from her love of doing things together. It started as a, “fine… I’ll play fantasy hockey with you,” and has since turned into a full blown knowledge of the game, rooting for favorite teams and of course, an undying love for Martin St. Louis. It’s a good thing she enjoys hockey, since our 2 year old son is OBSESSED with hockey. All day long, its either the, NHL Network, EA NHL 2010 (XBOX 360), a Kings game or Jaxon screaming, “He Stores!” as he shoots a hockey ball into his hockey net in our living room.
  • God is she sexy. I know that may embarrass her a bit, but she is any husbands dream come true. She has this way of wearing sweat pants and glasses in a away that I love. But that isn’t all there is to the story. She wears the “other things” oh-so-well. There is no fantasy that is better than what my wife brings to the marriage. I can’t say too much more, but NO ONE has this portion of marriage better than I do. No one.
  • She lets me be me. I have ambitions that are a very big part of who I am. I’m outspoken in religious and political arenas. I don’t follow others path or interpretations and at times, I imagine this can be a challenge. She gets offended “for” me and has a hard time ignoring foolish people. But she’s never asked me to not be me. She’s let me play it risky, she’s let me leave corporate life for that of an entrepreneur. She helps make my dreams come true.
  • I would choose her all over again and above anyone else. She is my absolute best friend. I’d rather watch a movie, read a book, take a cross country drive, see a Kings game, enjoy a great new restaurant or spend a night alone with Jennifer than any other person in the world. She makes everything that much better.

My wife, Jennifer Nicole Garrett, is to good for anyone, which is how I know… my valentine is better than yours; she is simply the best person I’ve ever known. For as hard as my life started as for as much as I lost, she has been my gift from God, a true reward.

Happy Valentines day baby… I love you.

Why do I sense one heck of a ‘build-up’ here John? ;) What are you fishing for? J/K’ing my friend. My wife and I have enjoyed 35 Valentine’s Days with each other. Each one just as memorable as the one before it.

Oh wait! I need to write this part on my own blog so she’ll see it and I get to fish for something later! LOL

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours my friend! ;)

If you'd like to sit down and get to know one another, give me a couple times that work and we'll hook up.
